Offshore Oil
A downloadable asset pack
This is not a game. It is a seed (or idea) submitted for SeedComp! #1 stage 1. Stage 1 is the 'Planting Round', where people submit seeds for games. Stage 2 is the 'Sprouting Round', where people turn those seeds into real games.
With this seed, you must write a piece of interactive fiction set on an offshore oil rig. Download the text file for full details.
I imagined this seed to be used for a parser-based text adventure, but if you'd prefer to write something else, such as choice-based interactive fiction, feel free to do so. I am placing this in the public domain, so you can use it, abuse it or reject it, however you see fit.

This is a fun setting with some nice info to get your started, like this is a really good seed. Just set up in a organized manner with lots of useful things to get you started while still allowing lots of freedom
Glad you like it.
Interesting idea! I love how something as, well, out there as an oil rig can also be its own city-like ecosystem. It reminds me of this animation from the French school of animation Gobelins, and also of this poem by Pablo Neruda (though it's about freighters, and not oil rigs, but for some reason inspires the same 'vibe' as this seed) — it'd be cool to have some sort of psychological horror drama on the platform. Or maybe a simple ghost story would do nicely too.
Now that you come to mention it, a horror drama like John Carpenter's 'The Thing' or Ridley Scott's 'Alien' would work well on an oil rig. You've not only got the dark, dirty environment in the bowels of the rig, but there's nowhere to escape to, unless you can get to one of the escape pods.
