1984
A downloadable asset pack
This is not a game. It is a seed (or idea) submitted for SeedComp! 2024 stage 1. Stage 1 is the 'Planting Round', where people submit seeds for games. Stage 2 is the 'Sprouting Round', where people turn those seeds into real games.
In this seed, you must write a piece of interactive fiction where you must contact the resistance movement set in a steampunk world reminiscent of George Orwell's 1984. Download the text file for full details.
I imagined this seed to be used for a text adventure (also known as parser-based interactive fiction), but if you'd prefer to write something else, such as choice-based interactive fiction, feel free to do so. I am placing this in the public domain, so you can use it, abuse it or reject it, however you see fit.

Very interesting concept. I like it!
As for the book, which I read many moons ago, maybe the technological changes were unpredicted because the book was not actually about the future. The foreword to the book stated that, although published in 1949, it had been written in 1948. In other words, by switching the last two digits of the date, Orwell wanted to say that that foreseen future was, at least for the most part, actually already present. This idea gave me the shivers ...
That's a good point. I actually read it many years before 1984 and promised myself to read it again when we reached 1984, but I never did. I remember it being very thought provoking and conveying a sense of helplessness, like no matter what you do, Big Brother is always one step ahead. I must read it again.
